The actress must really have had an impact as she converted that single episode into the lead role in Whedon's next big hit TV show, Firefly. The character of Summer Glau, River Tam, was one of the most complex characters that Glau handled with ease. As Tam she was required to participate in government research that required her to be made to become an ideal assassin. In the end, the capability of Tam to manage her feelings was removed from her. In Firefly Glau was in a position to display not just her acting skills but also her fighting skills. Her experience as an assassin gave her the chance to utilize all of her athletic abilities. Her classical education makes her a highly accomplished ballerina. Her dancing prowess also includes training in flamenco and tango however it was her broken toe that put her off dancing. Firefly had only one episode however it was an enormous success. Whedon's fans were so passionate that Whedon returned to the show 2 years after. Summer Glau, however, received quality work. Her television work included Cold Case and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation.
